The jury's verdict:
Maja Spasova's project takes as its starting point the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean. With a series of short films and sound installations Spasova explores and depicts the fleeing man's existential conditions. Reality and documentary material are mixed with mythology and fiction. In her works Maja Spasova shows a great social commitment - the issues she touches have a rare ability to be filtered by life itself. By acting in the public space Spasova invites all of us to become involved. At the same time art becomes more unprotected and the situation vulnerable, a fact that Spasova uses in both a poetic and conceptual way.
